Forest ManagementGet Involved in Arizona's Forest Plan Revisions!Currently, all six of Arizona's National Forests are in the process of revising their forest plans. The Sierra Club-Grand Canyon Chapter has been working over the past year with a coalition of conservationists to develop a set of link forest principles here': Principles for the Forest Plan Revision Processes that can help you write your comments. Our involvement in the development of these plans is crucial. The National Forests are holding public workshops that are publicized (sometimes) on their websites. Those who can't make these workshops can give written or oral input in a variety of ways and all are encouraged to do so. Unlike timber sales, grazing permits, or other site specific changes, the Forest Plans provide broader, more general direction intended to guide site specific planning. Therefore, broad comments about the value of old growth, the destructiveness of the Goshawk guidelines, the importance of connectivity between ecosystem types and wildlife habitats are exactly the sort of thing to include in communications with the National Forests about the plan. Specifically, at this time, the forests are seeking answers to three questions, and ask commentors to focus on problem identification:
Examples of how to express concerns as "problem identification" include:
