What are we doing to help mountain lions? Our efforts in protecting the mountain lion are multi-faceted. First we act as a voice in the community by attending meetings and helping to frame mountain lion policies. We also seek to provide education to Arizona inhabitants concerning safe co-existence with mountain lions. One of our most significant efforts entails working to protect habitat for these animals and all of Arizona’s native wildlife. Our education campaign includes:
Amazing Arizona Living with Wildlife and Mountain Lion Awareness February 26, 2006 10am-2pm The Phoenix Zoo Join the Phoenix Zoo every weekend in February for a celebration of Arizona as they explore the state’s diverse wildlife and people through games, special presentations and more! Activities and exhibitors will occur from 10am-2pm on Saturdays and Sundays at the head of the Arizona Trail. On February 26, 2006 we will celebrate Living with Wildlife and Mountain Lion Awareness. Come Join the Sierra Club- Grand Canyon Chapter, Southwest Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Foundation, and Arizona Game and Fish as we celebrate and learn all about urban wildlife issues, including mountain lions! We will need a few volunteers this day to help hand out literature, plus we also will be distributing doorhangers on February 18 from 9am-Noon to help advertise this event and to inform people about they can better live with mountain lions. We will need between 10 and 20 people for this. If you are interested in volunteering or just attending the event, please contact Sandy Bahr at (602) 253-8633 or at sandy.bahr@sierraclub.org
