As a grassroots organization, nearly all our activities are volunteer-based with people from around the Valley of the Sun. We have fun and can make a real impact both locally and state-wide. Learn more about our group committees, get involved, and make a difference! Much of our committee work is coordinated with the Grand Canyon Chapter.
The Palo Verde Group's board of directors. It is elected by chapter members and like other non-profits, committee is responsible for policy direction, overseeing the budget and staff, and is engaged in fundraising. The Executive Committee meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 8:00 pm except in August and December.
Recommends conservation policy for the Palo Verde Group, identifies conservation priorities, and directs grassroots conservation activities. Members can create committees for new issues as they arise. The Conservation Committee meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm except in August and December.
Researches, endorses and supports environmental candidates for local races. This committee also lobbies elected officials on Club, chapter and group priority issues.
Outings - Denise Aston The Outings Committee meets several times per year to orient established and new leaders to new issues and coordinate outing events.
Programs - Sherry Celine The Palo Verde Group offers monthly programs at the Phoenix Zoo. Our programs feature a guest speaker, photographer, backpacker, conservationist, or community leader who shares their ideas, work projects, and experiences with us. Endangered Species / Wildlife - Frank Welsh / Halina Szyposzynski
The Palo Verde Group and Grand Canyon Chapter have an active Wildlife Committee which meets thoroughout the
year. Current interest include wolf reintroduction, mountain lion awareness, and building a future for black-footed ferrets. Please visit the Grand Canyon Chapter Meeting and Events Page for meeting dates.
Energy - Jon Findley
The Energy Commmittee typically meets monthly discussing both local and national energy policy. They are
actively working on the Sierra Club Cool Cities Campaign to promote energy conservation amoung local
municipalities and keeping a sharp eye on the Arizona Corporation Commission adopting revised Renable Energy Standards. Please visit the Grand Canyon Chapter Meeting and Events Page for meeting dates.
